I have too little mental bandwidth available to play around much in the air with my 2011 vintage LX9000, and I’m not sure if I have it properly configured because I don’t seem to be able to switch from climb to SC mode on the ground. I’d appreciate any information about what I should be seeing on the ground.

What I do see is the little arrow arc on the vario that indicates the vario is in climb mode, and the fields on the vario are the ones that should be shown in climb mode according to my settings. If I push the SC toggle button on the front of the remote stick, nothing changes. As I understand it, this early version of the remote switch does not have a configurable front button, which only serves to switch between climb and SC mode. I’ve been able to configure the FN button (to show the FLARM screen).

Is this just the way it is supposed to work? Is there another way to get the system to switch to SC mode on the ground?

I have an LX9000 that was installed in my new-to-me LS-8 in 2011. No one in my club is familiar with the LX9000 and although I’ve read the manual for current and previous firmware and searched this group, I have not found an answer, though I know it’s probably there somewhere.

Thanks for any help in this.

Lon,

If you go to the setup menu and look at the Vario Parameters page, what is the setting in the Auto SC field?

If you are using the remote stick, then this should be set to OFF

Then go back to the Setup menu and select Hardware and then the Variometer item.

The second line down in the bottom portion of the page is where you set the Speed Command (sc) function.  Set this to SC toggle button.

That should have it working normally.

Assuming this fixes the problem, then to answer to your "how to control the volume on the ground question".  Instead of turning the volume knob, if you just toggle the vario into SC mode (and your MC value is still set to zero) then the vario will be silent because the needle will be at zero in SC mode.

This is one of the first things that I do after I turn on my 9000 to silence it while I am entering task etc.

To learn more about your 9000, go to my YouTube channel.  I currently have 15 videos there that cover various aspects of the LX flight computers.
