I just installed the latest version of the software and have observed an anomalous sound behavior. The UP sound does not initially start with intermittent beeping and is, instead, a continuous tone. The frequency of the tone indicates lift. After a bit, say 10 to 20 seconds, it changes suddenly to beeping at an even higher frequency. The display changes, not coincidentally, to the thermaling mode, showing my circling. When I leave the thermal the sound changes back to continuous at the same identical time the display returns to the map mode. I just added the Hawk vario option and this sound behavior is the same whether Hawk is enabled or not. Power input is good (12.9V).

While the vario UP velocity seems to be correct, I have trained myself after thousands of hours glider flying to react to the beeping sound when looking for a new thermal and it is very hard to readjust.

I took video of this behavior if anyone is interested.

I’ve noticed the same thing.  Even sitting on the ground it has a continuous background tone when it should be silent. This happened to align with getting Hawk installed and so I was just trying to figure out what setting had changed in the background, but I suspect it may be a bug.

I loaded and flew with beta 9.06e in my 9070 yesterday and the audio seemed normal.

Hi
I'm currently running 9.02 + Hawk, I was about to upgrade to 9.05 when I read about this potential issue...
Have you found a solution to the vario sound problem ?
Do you know where it's coming from ?

Regards
Ludovic

I am going to install 9.06f as soon as it stops raining here in Parowan. I installed Hawk yesterday and found an easy way of lifting the tail of my 31Mi to the necessary weighing position: I borrowed a floor jack from Parowan Aviation and used the Cobra tow-out bar with the lifting saddle to raise the tail enough to get the floor jack under the tailwheel.

I'm finding 9.06 will not save the vario sound, whether digital or linear, it seems to default to linear at switch on, I prefer the interupted tone in climb and its been quite annoying to find in flight I need to change it.

I'm pretty new to my LX9070 (gen 3) and not confident in this response but the behavior you describe (solid tone in UP for first 10sec) sounds like you are in speed command mode.  Once it detects you are thermalling, it switches to vario mode (takes 5-10sec).  Those 2 modes have separate audio settings.  For my setup, there is a distinct audio difference as it switches to vario mode (even though I tried to match settings for UP in both modes).  I also have SC deadband settings so audio switches in differently with SC mode.

On my setup, I have a vario priority toggle switch that can force it to remain in vario mode.  I also use the front stick trigger button to switch modes when I don't have vario priority toggled on.  That trigger switching mode is sometimes flaky and I use vario priority mode a lot.  On my vario, I display netto in SC and average climb in vario mode so, at a glance, I can tell which mode I'm in.

I'm now running 9.06f and have seen no difference in audio behavior.  I think some of the recent updates included stick button input behaviors.  Perhaps your particular HW setup became affected and changed mode switching behavior?  Maybe look at your SC/Vario mode switching setup?

Hope this helps.  (I can't help but feel that my answer is telling you something you are already very familiar with)

Installing 9.06f resolved the problem, which I think is related to SC switching. Now I am troubleshooting Hawk, which is not working (there was no Hawk needle or data, despite all necessary boxes being checked). I just reinstalled all of the s/w, including updating the V8, to see if that fixes the problem. We have had high winds here at Parowan for the last several days and haven't flown.

Hi
I flew with 9.05 yesterday, and the day before: no issue with the vario sound or SC switching.
It behaved just like it did with 9.02

Ludovic
