The LXNav user manual hints at the possibility of using LXSim with Condor.  It sure would be nice to have Condor spit out the NMEA to the LXSim so I could get more practice.

The 8.0.3 manual says:
2.1.9 Simulator
There are two options to stay in condition and familiar with your system. LXSim is a free of
charge program, which you can download from www.lxnav.com or data from the Condor PC
flight simulator (www.condorsoaring.com) can be received via the RS232 port after entering
suitable passwords (see Chapter 5.1.17).
These features are extremely useful for pilots who want to learn about the system and also
wish to refresh their knowledge after a winter break. Please note that altitude data will be
sent from the simulator which means that real final glide training will be possible.

The code is 55556.

Has anybody actually made use of this?

The Condor2 world seems to be in love with TopHat because they've gotten this sort of functionality to work nicely.

I'm confused: if you are running Condor on your PC, and also running LXSim on the same PC, can't the programs just communicate without physical RS232 ports?

Yes with virtual com ports.  There is a chance that to do that it will require a 3rd program but it can be done...

Rick, Is that right? I've used Condor with the actual LX9000 box and the binder connector. Does LXSim just start taking NMEA input from a com port if you  enter the 55556 password? Which com port?

For full disclosure I have not linked condor with the 9000 sim.  My comment was just to say that if they can be linked with actual com cables you should be able to direct to a virtual com port for each...

If you run the programs on separate computers, can you link them with Bluetooth? Only the old computers have RS232, unless you use an adapter.

Connecting LXSim and Condor would be a really useful training tool, but as near as I can tell you can only drive an actual LX9 from Condor. So just set up Condor with your "hot spare" LX9070 ;)

i suggest you go to the condor soaring forum that shows how to use Virtual Serial Ports to connect XC Soar.
seems like the same basic principles should apply.

i do see one comment that says LXSIM only works with IGC Files not dynamic NMEA data.
but i hope that someone can figure this out.....
i'd love to have a window open with LXSIM when flying condor2.

From what I can tell, there's no way to get LXSim to listen to any COM port.
Getting a COM port splitter and pair all set up in software isn't that hard with these instructions: https://sites.google.com/view/dsgcvr/vspe

Getting LXSim to pay attention to the COM port traffic as NMEA input is the hard part.  It looks like the 55556 entry in LXSim is utterly ignored. :(
I'm suspicious if this is a "you have to take your LX9000 out of your glider cockpit, put it on your tabletop at home where you run Condor, hook up a serial cable to the input, run 55556 in the password, and go to town with Condor." kind of deal.

If I were LX, I would not want LXSim to accept NMEA sentences as input because then I have basically given away my product for free (just use a Surface tablet in the cockpit).
OTOH, Condor and LX could cooperatively implement an encrypted NMEA protocol between them that would essentiall solve that.

If I were LX I'd spend my LXSim time adding a simulated V8 to use playing back IGC files. I've used the take-it-out of the glider and put it next to the Condor PC in winter, and it works, but I get more out of playing back IGC files when I'm trying to figure out LX9000 features and setups, and that would be helped if I could see a virtual V8 alongside the virtual LX9000.
