to LWVMO Early Voting Study
I have a favor to ask, would you please go to our Early Voting google
group and hit files and see if you can view the 10 files I have
attached to the listserv. They open for me; however, they are from my
computer and that may make a difference. I do not think they go out
with the email. There is one that contains our calendar, scope and
definitions. Plus a resource list and a summary of what the states
that surround MO are doing.
We are looking at whether we prefer early voting in person along with
precient election day voting, or whether we think no-excuse absentee
voting in person or via mail along with precient election day voting
is the better way to go. We could approve both options or neither.
We did not include all vote by mail as Oregon does as we had not
mentioned that at State Convention.
In the 2009 legislative session Sec. of State Robin Carnahan promoted
Early Voting over no-excuse absentee voting. Jolie Justus, senator
from KC, sponsored a bill for no-excuse absentee voting. You will see
a mix of these options in the surrounding states. Also the study from
Wisconsin, Ohio, and Maine are looking at adding early voting. They
already have no-excuse absentee voting in person and by mail
available to them.
With the summary of articles we will have more pros and cons. I want
us to develop a list of pros and cons for early voting and a separate
list for no-excuse absentee voting. I will see if we can do this on
the page section of our listserv--if that doesn't work--just post your
additions to pros and cons on the discussion page and I will add it to
a document and post it. Thanks Donna
PS Marty who do you have on the local St. Louis Committee? We had
quite a few people express interest at State Convention about being on
the committee.
