Why is south bay and berkeley LW active, but not SF?

Probably just Schelling point effects. Unless there are strong separations in communication preferences - group 1 wants to talk about A but not about B, while group 2 wants to talk about B but not A - conversations will tend to consolidate into one place because readers want to be where the most writers are and writers want to be where the most readers are.
