i assume there is still a functioning soundbuilders SIG?
i suspect i had an 'electrical event' on my home wiring during a still ongoing home renovation, and possibly fritzed some aspect of the input power circuitry on a sweet Alesis keyboard that i've had in my home office for the last 15 years.
when it powers up, the LCD display just shows one little segment with underscore.
outcome of first diagnostic reveals it will take more skill / tooling than i have or am willing to assemble given current personal situation.
opened the clamshell case, visually inspected - no obvious bulging caps, etc.
i'd like to make this available for free to any interested party before just dumping it on nextdoor.
it's apparently one of the best digital keyboards of its day, and the samples are still sought after for their authenticity.
full size 88-key weighted action keyboard - and heavy as a mother, i mean like 60 lbs.
Alesis QS8.1
service manual - this shows the real guts:
$1999 new in 1999
$399 - i paid in 2011 at Music-Go-Round
i'd be willing to drop this monster off at LVL1 if that makes more sense - but i'd like confirmation that someone actually has an interest in repairing it, not just gather dust in boneyard.
a pickup at my house in Middletown is the default option - let me know if you're interested so we can coordinate.
