Hey everyone -

A couple of weeks ago, I talked about a project I'm working on with a student of mine where we've been printing clock parts on a 3D printer.  We now have some plans (they're DXF files) that we'd like to try to cut on either the CNC router and/or the laser cutter.  I'm thinking the laser cutter might be more accurate for the gears and such ..

Anyway, is anyone going to be at the space tonight that might have a few minutes to spare to show me a few pointers on using those machines?  I've gone through the wiki page, but I'd rather not ruin either or both of the machines, so it would be good to get some advice before trying to do it. =)

thanks!

Unfortunately the laser cutter is still being repaired

Oh yeah, I remember that from the last meeting.  ETA on when that might be ready to roll?

The parts are in and we started rewiring them. Problem is,
instructions are for a newer model control panel than we have. We have
a manually controlled current limiter, whereas the new board is a
digitally controlled one. We're fairly certain it can be wired in
directly, but have been waiting for confirmation from Full Spectrum
before proceeding. We don't want to risk doing it wrong and destroying
everything. ETA is basically "very soon" and I expect folks will be
working on it tonight. Once the new board is wired in correctly, we
should be ready to laser again.

Awesome.  Thanks for the info.  No rush, I'm sure there are probably others in line for it before us.  We're actually just thinking about cutting out a couple of test parts right now - but even after going through the wiki, I wouldn't feel comfortable jumping in without some of that expert LVL1 assistance!

I have the instructions for the rewire.  With any luck, we will have it running tonight.
