What's the proper way to probe an unknown header for a serial port?

What's the proper way to probe unknown headers for a serial port?

I've got little sixnet linux controller I'm fiddling with...

Oh I've got a ST-LN-1210?  I think that's it.. It's at home and I'm not.  It doesn't have an IP nor DHCPing, and the RS-232 has no feedback as well. There's a 2x5 header on the inside of the IPm board, that I'm assuming is a TTL console or a JTAG.. It seems to be mostly 3v3 and a few grounds.  I just got the serial back for the basic support software, I'm going to see if I can probe it tonight.
