I'm cross-posting this from our MakerEd list...

An old colleague showed me this citizen science crowdsourcing project, which could be a good classroom activity.


The site asks participants to transcribe museum records from scanned collection images. There are herbarium and entomology records on there now. 

You transcribe the species name, collector, location, date etc. and earn rewards for transcribing the records. Strangely addicting and interesting to see these high resolution scans of museum samples.

I've heard of crowdsourced work like this with genetics, etc - people put pieces together like puzzles and have helped solve problems that have stumped scientists for years
