Calling all Makers to STEAM! Innovation Festival at Conner Prairie

Hello,

In support of our on-going efforts to provide more STEM-based (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) programming at Conner Prairie, we are excited to announce a new initiative in place of this year’s Indy Mini Maker Faire that will spotlight innovations in science, technology, engineering, the arts and math:

STEAM! Innovation Week is a one-of-its-kind event that celebrates the spirit of innovation and its impact on American culture. Through a series of exhibits, activities, presentations, performances and hands-on demonstrations focused on science, technology, engineering, the arts and math, the festival will bring visitors face-to-face with some of the most exciting innovations of the past and present and some of the most intriguing innovators of today.

Over 5 days, Sept 12-16, STEAM innovations will sweep through each of our five themed areas providing guests of all ages an opportunity to explore historic ideas and discoveries. The culmination of the week’s programming and festivities will be a STEAM-themed innovation fair on Saturday and Sunday, September 15-16. As with our 2011 Indy Mini Maker Faire, our STEAM-themed innovation fair will include some of the region’s most creative makers, as well as scientists, technologists, engineers, and artisans who will showcase their work.

And that’s where you come in! We are looking for dedicated tinkerers, builders, hackers, carpenters, artists, and students to exhibit at the STEAM! Innovation Festival and LVL1 would be a great fit.

A key component of the innovation fair will be the Makers Pavilion. Makers from across the nation will be invited to interact with our guests and exhibit their creations in the context of innovation. Builds will be diverse and might range from robotics to textiles. Over the two day fair, the Maker Pavilion will demonstrate how makers exemplify the tenacious spirit of innovation regardless of the scale in which they work. Together with scientists, technologists, and others working in STEAM-related areas, we look to spotlight the diverse mix of people who innovate.

So what do we mean by innovation?

We define “innovation” as the introduction of something new to an existing idea, process, product or device. Furthermore, we believe that innovators everywhere are linked by their ability to challenge established notions and dream of new possibilities. Some innovations are big. Some not so big. Some may have a wide reach and impact culture in profound ways. Others might have more modest ambitions but still shed new light on an existing concept. We celebrate them all and in doing so encourage our guests to start thinking more creatively and innovatively themselves.

We hope that you will consider exhibiting at the Maker Pavilion, September 15 & 16, as part of Conner Prairie’s STEAM! Innovation Week.
