surface plate

I haven’t been to the location in a while … is there, by chance, a surface plate in the shop?

Hi Eric, 

As I understand, I believe we do NOT have what you’re referring to, a granite or otherwise flat surface for precision inspection. 

We have non precision horizontal surfaces a plenty, and would love to see ya back!

… I missed the opportunity to haul a large granite flatness block that they were no longer using at work as I could not fathom carrying it or unloading it.

There is a granite place that is always on facebook giving away offcuts.  I snagged a couple and I use one as an impromptu surface plate.  Search for free granite and its on the south side but I dont remember the name.

I need to do some hand scraping for a couple old lathes; need a precision plate. 

There’s a perfect 36” plate for $100, but it’s a 7 hour drive, north of Detroit. Within a local drive there are some good options as well, but I spent my holiday money on a Schaublin, so Im poor again :)

Grizzly is in Springfield, Missouri, about a 7 hour drive.  They're pretty reasonable, but if you need to have a big one shipped, the shipping will probably be more than the plate.
