I'll bring it in for our next meeting if you want to see it up close. NOTE: as you may expect it is sharp!.  Handle with care.

I'm getting pretty decent on the grinder!  A few more knives and I might even be doing good enough to start selling them if I care to.

hey , thats pretty cool ive allways wanted one of those str8 razors ,   hate the idea of buying disposable ones , part of the reason i dont shave plus i was treated to a old man style shoe shine an shave with the hot towel an all one time ,    ole str8 razor shave is nice !           plus you can allways get the wife to make meat pies on the side !  :)




   did you make that from steel stock ?   cut an grind it down to a razor shape ?

I made it from a scrap of steel from my dad's pile of scrap steel and a board of cocobolo (South American hardwood).  Cut the steel out on the bandsaw (hint hint: we need one!) based on a template I drew up.  After that I rough-ground it and then had it heat-treated.  After that came the final-grinding and polishing of the blade etc.   After that I gave a couple of attempts at a blue burl stabilized wood handle but it simply wasn't strong enough that thin.  Having failed at that (and inhaled a lot of the blue dust!) I turned to some cocobolo as it's stronger.  I milled out a channel from a block I sawed off the cocobolo board (using that handy bandsaw!) while I still had a nice flat edge to hold in the vice.  After drilling the hole for the decorative (yet functional) pin I sketched out the outline I wanted it to have and roughed that out on the bandsaw (yes, I'll be mentioning how handy that thing is a lot here).  After that I did the preliminary shaping of the handle on the grinder and then hand-sanded it and polished it on the buffer.  It was then ready for the pin and a bit of final fitting/sanding, polishing and then sharpening...  After that I got fancy and put in a wool liner.

  thats cool,       for sure fun working with metal an wood id like to get more into it ,,    been reading up on metal working,   between my black knight suit i want an my ninja thowing stars an grapple hook ive got to get some more materials ,    :)

So..

Louiville's answer to the Mountain View Hacker Dojo is really a
KET/PBS really advanced wood working shop!! Although replace wood for
the most part with exotic materials, and tools that could either fry
you, or cut you into small pieces!! (along with a cool dungeon into
the gates of hell unless it's really been blocked off by MSD!!)

we can now raise cash by doing shaves by sorority gals in swimsuits!!
or guys but I'm not sure ladies want guys shaving them at all,
anywhere!!
