Many thanks to Dana for leading this effort.  I have contributed to Dana's initiative.  I too used Alex Dunai as my guide when we visited Ukraine and went to 7 different cities and towns.  He was an excellent guide.  I have also attended several of his talks over the years at IAJGS.  I have also had contact with Oksana this past year and am very grateful for all she is doing to acknowledge the Jewish identity of Skala.  Please see Dana's email below.  I encourage all to contribute.

As many of you know, i am helping friends of mine who live in Ukraine. I have mentioned Оксана Ундерко who lives in Skala Podilska. She needs to raise $2000 to acquire three pairs of bullet proof vests and helmets for three men who are part of the resistance. I met Oksana when I visited Skala Podilska in 2016. Skala is a small town in Ukraine on the River Zbrucz. Both of my father's parents were born there. Oksana has a unique story. Her great or double great aunt, Olena Kovalyshyn saved and sustained the Edelstein family during WWII. Max Mermelstein who is largely responsible for writing the Yizkhor book (book of rememberance) memorializing the Jewish community of Skala wrote of Olena in the chapter of the book entitled "Lights in the Darkness". Other extended ancestors of Oksana were also mentioned as similar "Lights". Oksana has continued that tradition of casting "Light". Recently, the Skala Research Group (largely children and grandchildren of Jewish emigres and refugees) donated money toward construction of a reading/media room at the school which is dedicated to the memory of the Skala Jewish community and to the righteous ("Lights") of Skala who gave them comfort in their hour of need. Oksana does not have Zelle or Paypal. I do have her wire instructions. If you wish to donate please PM me with you pledge. I can send you Oksana's wire instrutions or you can send money to me and I will send the wire.   My paypal is dme....@gmail.com (if you send money to me use friends and family); I wlll wire all money remitted to me to Oksana.

May be an image of 5 people and indoor
