Subject: [galicia] Important updates to the Gesher Galicia Map Room
To: Gesher Galicia SIG <gal...@lyris.jewishgen.org>

A new look for the Gesher Galicia Map Room, and new information to
help you use it!

https://maps.geshergalicia.org/

We are proud that the Map Room has added many historical maps of
Galicia over the past 10 years, but we recognize that the sheer number
of maps has lately made it a bit harder to find the best ones
applicable to your research. Now we've organized the maps into
categories, simplified the finding tools, and started a series of
reference articles and tutorials which can help you better appreciate
and exploit the value of the maps. Each of the map sections and
resource pages includes one or many excerpts from maps in our
collection and elsewhere, to stimulate your curiosity and illustrate
the topics discussed on the page.

We have also significantly expanded the linked list of map sources
(archives, libraries, and other collections), as well as the
bibliography of books, articles, web pages, and other resources
relevant to historical maps of Galicia. We would like to thank the
many volunteers and contractors who have contributed to the Map Room
over the past decade and in this latest update, with map records
research and sourcing, historical analysis, web management and
programming, and tools development. Now we encourage everyone to
explore the new Map Room and to spend time wandering the landscapes of
the past!
