So I have created a lot of automations for my customer and each of these automations has connection with the gmail app (especially the send an email module).

Each time tha customer change its gmail password, all these scenarios are broken and I should go myself to each scenario and connect every module of gmail again.

Passkeys are a safer and easier alternative to passwords. With passkeys, userscan sign in to apps and websites with a biometric sensor (such as a fingerprintor facial recognition), PIN, or pattern, freeing them from having to rememberand manage passwords.

Developers and users both hate passwords: they give a poor user experience, they add conversion friction, and they create security liability for both users and developers. Google Password Manager in Android and Chrome reduces the friction through autofill; for developers looking for even further improvements in conversion and security, passkeys and identity federation are the industry's modern approaches.

A passkey can meet multifactor authentication requirements in a single step, replacing both a password and OTP (e.g. 6-digit SMS code) to deliver robustprotection against phishing attacks and avoids the UX pain of SMS or app-basedone-time passwords. Since passkeys are standardized, a single implementationenables a passwordless experience across all of a users' devices, acrossdifferent browsers and operating systems.

A passkey is a digital credential, tied to a user account and a website or application. Passkeys allow users to authenticate without having to enter a username or password, or provide any additional authentication factor. This technology aims to replace legacy authentication mechanisms such as passwords.

When a user wants to sign in to a service that uses passkeys, their browser or operating system will help them select and use the right passkey. The experience is similar to how saved passwords work today. To make sure only the rightful owner can use a passkey, the system will ask them to unlock their device. This may be performed with a biometric sensor (such as a fingerprint or facial recognition), PIN, or pattern.

A user can sign into services on any device using a passkey, regardless of where the passkey is stored. For example, a passkey created on a mobile phone can be used to sign in to a website on a separate laptop.

Passkeys are intended to be used through operating system infrastructure thatallows passkey managers to create, backup, and make passkeys available to theapplications running on that operating system. On Android, passkeys can bestored in the Google Password Manager, whichsynchronizes passkeys between the user's Android devices that are signed intothe same Google account. Passkeys are securely encrypted on-device before beingsynced, and requires decrypting them on new devices. Users with Android OS 14 orlater can opt to store their passkeys in a compatible third-party passwordmanager.

For example, a user visits example.com on the Chrome browser on their Windowsmachine. This user has previously logged into example.com on their Androiddevice and generated a passkey. On the Windows machine, the user chooses to signin with a passkey from another device. The two devices will connect and the userwill be prompted to approve the use of their passkey on the Android device, forexample, with a fingerprint sensor. After doing so, they're signed in on theWindows machine. Note that the passkey itself isn't transferred to the Windowsmachine, so typically example.com will offer to create a new passkey there. That way, the phone isn't required next time the user wants to sign in. Before you connect to your Gmail account from Outlook on the web, or add a Gmail account to Outlook, you need to prepare your Gmail account. You need to turn on 2-step verification for Gmail and then create an app password that Office 365 will use with your Gmail address to make the connection.

To use an app password with Gmail, you have to first turn on 2-step verification, and then obtain the app password. Once you have an app password, you can use that in combination with your username to connect to Gmail.

Re-enter your password if asked, and in the Set up your phone step, enter or verify your cell phone. On the next step, enter the verification number sent to your cell phone and choose Verify.

Note the app password under Your app password for your device. You can use this with your Gmail address in the app you're connecting to your Gmail account (or adding you Gmail account to). This combination grants complete access to your Gmail account by the app that is using it.

The 16-character app password is displayed with spaces so it is easier to read. When you enter it to the app you want to connect, ignore the spaces and enter it as an unbroken string of 16 characters.

Now you're ready to add your Gmail account to Outlook. When you're prompted for a password, you enter this app password for your Gmail account. Don't enter your Gmail password. For instructions on adding your Gmail account to Outlook, see these articles:

For the past several months, I have tried setting up my MF644CDW to scan to email. I've followed the instructions to the best of my ability, and read a number of posts on here... and yet, I'm still stuck. Turning to this forum in the hopes someone has cracked the code.

Yeah I have the same issue- spent tons of money on a scanner i can NOT figure out how to set up- I can't even set up the remote UI properly- the IP page wont load plus even when I did do that part before I could never get it to work.

To check the error code for Scan to Email, you can print the Communication Management Report using the operation panel of your Color imageCLASS MF644Cdw. Keep in mind that the report printed for e-mail/I-Fax indicate the transmission result between the MF644Cdw and the mail server, not between the MF644Cdw and the destination address. Follow the process below to print the Communication Management Report:

I was able to finally get this to work by setting up 2 factor id on my gmail account even though I didn't really want it and then set up the app password and used that. Otherwise I hade done everything ckaas88 mentioned and none of it worked. Now it works.

2. If you have access to multiple networks, you need to make sure your computer and your printer are on the same network (I think this actually caused me a problem with printing, but it may have been for scanning as well - don't remember!)

Thank you so much for getting me on the right track. I have a MF654cdw Color ImageClass. I was getting 802, 806 and 839 errors. I've been trying to get this to work for a week now. I totally forgot about the app generated p/w that is needed with some apps/devices when attempting to use my gmail account. So, for me the first thing that was needed to correct my issue was generating an Google app p/w. From there I followed your steps and it still didn't work. So I ticked the options that best suited my setup. See below.

I then selected "check my SMTP connection" and that was a success. Now, I will say I've had success using that tool but still could not successfully scan to email. However, it worked. With all of the different configurations I tried...and I tried these settings...the difference for me was the Google app p/w. Hope this helps others that still experience issue getting this feature to work. Good LUCK!

"No" is the correct answer--you should never give away your password. Gmail now supports OAuth, an industry standard protocol, enabling you to give your consent for specific access to your mail without sharing your password.

I recommend not giving them their password. In every case I've seen a service demand that, it does make your life easier, but is entirely optional, and letting people into my Gmail account for a few seconds of convenience is completely not worth it. I'd prefer the pain of simply entering things manually later. Your solution also works, although I agree it's suboptimal.

Ask yourself this. Have I used this email address for any of my online banking, bill payments, or anything else that I would not want everyone on the internet to see? If the answer is yes I have used this email address for this then you know you shouldn't give out the password. Otherwise other people could have permanent access to your credit cards, bank accounts, etc. It isn't worth it.

Hi, Has anyone managed to get Thunderbird to work with a Gmail "App Password"? I've just enabled 2-step verification, generated an App Password for Thunderbird to use, and simply can't get it to work. I've gone into the password manager (Options / Security / Saved Passwords) and edited the password for both inbound and outbound. The Google App Password is a 16 character string displayed in groups of four, I've tried with or without the space between the groups.

Gmail will then add a token into Thunderbird, stored in same place as saved passwords. From then onwards gmail will use that token instead of the normal password. You will not need to enter passwords.

I am assuming that the "open a web page with Google login" is an oauth login process, once completed a token is created that Thunderbird and Google use for a very long time. around six months I understand.
