1. How to shape your profile for careers within academia

Preparing your profile for a successful application is a process that needs to start long before you actually apply for positions. This has become even more important given the ever-tighter market for academic positions. This workshop will help you get clarity about the steps you need to take to optimise your profile, manage the application process and give yourself the best possible chances of success. Whether you are a PhD student looking for direction and more information on your options, or a postdoc starting your job search for academic positions, this interactive workshop will help you develop a career path strategy for pathways in academia. It will cover the key elements in the process from deciding on the academic pathway that is right for you to the preparation of your CV and tackling the interview process.

2. How to shape your profile for careers outside academia

Transitioning to careers beyond academia can be a challenge for early career researchers. There’s often a lack of obvious role models, nervousness about seeking support for such a move and uncertainty about how skills learned in academic research translate to the ‘outside world’. This interactive workshop will guide you through the main steps in preparing for a transition from academia and executing it successfully. The event is suited to both PhD students and postdocs, whether you already intend to make a move or simply want the insurance of knowing how to make the transition outside academia if you needed to do so in future. The workshop aims to help you choose a non-academic career direction that would suit your strengths and preferences, and to find role models who can help you enter a new field. You will be introduced to the transferable skills that employers most often look for, how to build the relevant capabilities and track record, and how best to demonstrate these through an application process.

Cheers, Maren (on behalf of LPS)
