Hi All,

As an amateur astronomer, Quickmap has seen to most of my needs.  However, I would dearly like to be able to access nadir-looking imagery of temperate latitudes, which seems to be impossible on Quickmap.  The live demo version of Lunaserv has been useful in this regard, but I don't seem to be able to generate elevation profiles using it.  So my questions are:

1)  Does the full version of Lunaserv allow elevation profiles to be made?
2)  Is downloading it using Windows, which I gather is untested, possible by someone with no experience of building complex software, such as moi?
3)  If the answer to either of the above questions is no, is there any other way of generating nadir-looking elevation profiles that you would recommend?

Thanks very much for your time and for making such brilliant tools available to the general public.

Regards,

Philip

Hi Philip,

The main focus of Lunaserv is the WMS server; the capabilities you see
in the front end (Lunaserv Global Explorer) online are all that's
available in that tool. However, if you have WMS capable GIS software
that can do the elevation profiles you're looking for, you should be
able to interface it with Lunaserv to access the data. If you don't
have WMS capable GIS software handy, you might look into JMARS. JMARS
is able to access the Lunaserv server as a data source, and I believe it
can draw the elevation profiles you're looking for.

Hi Nick,

Many thanks for your advice - I've downloaded JMARS and it's brilliant!  It has been of great use in a number of projects, including generating elevation profiles and contour lines.  It is wonderful that exciting software such as this is so freely available, not to mention the vast range of data.

All the best,

Philip
