Lunarium Apps and Palm Pre webOS

It is the third time that one of the Lunarium's users asked me if I am
going to create some apps for the webOS platform, and since today is a
cold and rainy Sunday, and since Mercury is retrograde and so helps to
get rid of outmoded stereotypes, I decided to have another look at
webOS.

My original understanding was that webOS is easy to use, as it is
based on standard web technologies like HTML and JavaScript, but it is
quite limited in what you can do with it. If all what you need is
communicating with websites and other users over the Internet,
everything is fine, but in many of Lunarium's apps I am implementing,
or planning to implement, rich sources of information and advanced
functionality.

Now I had another look at webOS and I can see that I was wrong. First
of all, the SQLite database is available on the device, which means I
can create apps like iLuna (which is basically a database plus an
interface that allows to view the data).

But also, there is a possibility to create plug-ins. As far as I
understand, it is not fully available yet but is expected to become
available soon. This is a great news as I should be able to create a
Swiss Ephemeris plugin and then perform on a webOS device any kind of
astrological calculations, no matter how complex they are.

This makes webOS potentially a very interesting platform for me, and I
will certainly try to create some apps for it, beginning from iLuna.

The only question is how many people around the world have Palm Pres
or other webOS devices. Are there any Palm Pre owners in Lunarium
Group?

Tansel, but you do have some mobile phone, don't you?

Okay, if you don't, I might create a free Runic Oracle for Linux. But
I'd prefer to use Qt, I want to learn it, while your favourite Ubuntu
is based on Gnome...

Well I do, but I'm not sure I represent the society in large; I'm quite
a bit outdated, technologically speaking :) I use a Nokia 6170 which
uses JavaME. Surprisingly enough I found a small app showing moon's
phases and the times of the full moon, new moon, sunrise, sunset etc...
It was a miracle!

As for Linux, I was only joking. The Ubuntu community, from what I have
observed, (so it's solely my opinion) is much more scientifically
inclined and there is close to nothing when it comes to spiritual
sciences. I will say it though that a small 'screenlet' showing the
phase and the sign of the moon would be nice on a desktop. Please don't
get me wrong, I'm not asking you to do it, merely pointing out that such
a thing would be handy for those interested in lunar astrology.

Yes on a PreS been on Palm for a long time. I do not know if you are aware but HP and Palm are now buds- should be interesting...

Although I love my ipod Touch, I HATE typing on it. Also now the Palm Pre can act as mobile wifi for 4 to 5 devices. Price for that was 40 / month, now free. So now I can use the Pre to connect Touch if no wireless connection... I have always loved the way Palm thinks - and YOU!

Yeah, programmers are the worst people to speak about anything that is
not mechanical or strictly logical. Most amazingly, they imagine
themselves being scientific, although programming is closest to
knitting. The really scientific guys, like Einstein, are much more
sensible in their attitude to the invisible part of reality.

Thank you, Suuz :)

I do know about HP buying Palm - let's hope this is for better.

hi guys,

I subscribed this group as a once an email a day setting. I'm getting way too many for my inbox...
what is going on ?
I think I'm on an email list which is NOT  the google group list.
Please take me off the email list and just leave me on the google group list where the once a day email settings will take effect.
thanks
heiko

Hi Heiko,

You were subscribed twice in this group: once for email, once for
abridged email. I have now removed one record and set the other one to
digest email.

You can actually change the way how you are subscribed yourself, in
'Edit my membership'
