Just a little update.

I sent Matjaz an email again, asking about possible replacement
components for two of the ones I couldn't find.

This time, I got a response (YAY!). He gave me some hints on possible
replacements for one of these, and details of a German supplier of the
other.

I'm now going through the avnr schematics (which are hand-drawn pics)
and building a BOM, so we know what parts are used and so we can
(hopefully) work out how much it would cost to build one of these.

So far I've got a mostly complete BOM for 4 of the 6 boards in the
avnr project (Sweep, TX, RX and IF - will need to confirm with Matjaz
a few things, but mostly complete). The last two boards are the CPU
board and an LCD board. I'm only going to make a BOM for the CPU
board, as the LCD board isn't needed (CPU board spits out RS232). Once
I've got this done and organised, I'll post the BOM somewhere, and
start pricing the components.

Personally, I wouldn't bother with the RS232 output. I would eliminate the transistor which is used to generate "fake RS232" voltage output, and I would bring the serial from the microcontroller out to an FT232 etc. so that you can have a USB interface for debugging or testing, and you can use it with any computer anywhere without needing a computer with an RS232 port.
