Hello,

My daughter and I would like to join in on the Jan 10 launch event at Snow Ranch. Coming from Watsonville, I want to make sure I know what I'm heading into.

Our rockets are less than 12" tall and take A-C engines, regular Estes models.

Is there a signup sheet where people arrive and are scheduled a launch time? How does it generally work to get in on the event?

Should/can I bring my own launchpad?

Are there likely to be extra engines available for sale?

I don't need a lot of detail, but like I said.. it's a long drive and there are very few opportunities for a legal launch around us, so I want to make sure I'm prepared and my daughter knows what to expect.

Thank you! Looking forward to meeting many of you.

-Jesse

  • Our rockets are less than 12" tall and take A-C engines, regular Estes models.
  • Excellent. We cater to kids!
  • Is there a signup sheet where people arrive and are scheduled a launch time?
  • No, make your rocket ready and you get assigned a pad.
  • How does it generally work to get in on the event?
  • Arrive and bring expendables. Motors, wadding, igniters, drinks, food, sunscreen. Checkin at the membership table. http://lunar.org/membership.shtml warning. Rates are doubling in February. Might want to consider joining at the launch.
  • Should/can I bring my own launchpad?
  • No. We control the launch and have all the launch equipment.
  • Are there likely to be extra engines available for sale?

Tony got all the answers for the rocketry. I want to add that Snow Ranch is a beautiful place to spend a day with the family, fly your own rockets and watch others. So - bring lunch and snacks and water. There will be two porta-potties, maybe bring sanitary hand wipes. Dress in layers - it can be pretty cool in the morning and nice and warm in the afternoon.

At the check-in table there will be flight cards - you want to fill one out for each flight. Fill the card out before you come up to the table where we assign you a launch pad. If you want help with anything, just ask. Go ahead and check the "I want to push the button" checkbox on the flight card and we'l make sure your  daughter gets called up to the launch console to launch her rocket.

Tony flies the "Piñata Rocket" at every launch, the kids love it, yes, it drops candy. As it happens, some kids just get their own rocket loaded up on a pad when we announce that it's piñata time. Do not stress, chase the candy, rocket should still be on the pad when you get back.

It might sound like. lot, but it's easy and fun. Hope to see you there.

Mike
