Hi Shaurya,

I will be glad to help where I can but I am kind of far away so I am going to pass your name on to our membership to see if there is someone closer.

ARC is a team event so you really need to get a team together including a teacher to be the team mentor or join an existing team. There are several in the San Jose area.

This is a middle school team in Palo Alto  Dzmitry Malyshau <kva...@gmail.com>

LUNAR has an ARC mailing list that will allow you to contact other teams in the Bay Area.

https://groups.google.com/g/lunar-arc

You can also get on the lunar general mailing list and ask any questions there.

That said, if you are just getting started as a team, there is a sign up deadline of December 1. If you miss that deadline, you will have to wait until next year to compete. You can still learn to build and fly rockets this year even if you don't compete.

The next thing is to get going right away designing and building your rocket. I would suggest getting a rocket kit like the Big Bertha to get practice building and flying a kit, then design your own and build your contest rocket.

You will need a kit of parts. Note that Apogee sells an ARC kit of parts with just about everything you will need for your design.

You will need an altimeter. Be sure to get one that is certified for the contest.

You will need simulation software such as RockSym https://www.apogeerockets.com/Rocksim/Rocksim_information

or Open Rocket https://openrocket.info/ Note that OpenRocket is free.

Learn to use the simulator of your choice to design and test your design. You will need to adjust your design to hit the requirements for this years contest.

You can buy engines from our club president Fred Radford. https://rocket.supplies/

So, get yourself started, ask any questions you have of me or of the lunar-general mailing list.

Dear William,

Hi! My name is Shaurya Sharma, and I am a 7th grader at Stratford Middle School, San Jose Campus. I am really excited to take part in the American Rocketry Challenge and want to design, build, and launch model rockets. I have gone through the design rules, and my parents saw your name listed as a mentor. I am reaching out to see if you could help me get started. Would you be open to guiding me? Thank you

Shaurya

About Me:

I have always loved a good challenge, both in and out of the classroom! I am proud to be an "A" student, and back in 3rd grade, I won the title of regional spelling bee champion and ranked 8th nationally in the Math Kangaroo Competition. On the field, I play receiver for my school’s football team, catching passes and making plays downfield. I am also a center in competitive basketball—and last year I got to lead as captain of my school team.

This year, I am excited to share that I submitted my project, NatureWatch—an AI-powered environmental monitoring and prediction system—for the National STEM Competition 2025. And, for a bit of extra fun I am playing Troy in our school’s production of High School Musical 2 JR.
