When I was a kid, most of my newspaper route money* went into Estes rockets. The latest cool designs, engines for the same, igniters, launch systems, etc. I can still go on and on about the tradeoffs between a B6-4 and C6-5.
A rather accomplished astro/engineering colleague of mine (with over a month in space) recently told me that a firm he occasionally consults for reached out to him in their search for a new General Manager for Estes. I offered to reach out to my own network, which basically means y'all.
They're looking for someone mid-career with strong business acumen, high energy and a passion for STEM. Show stopper for many is that the position would be on site in Penrose, CO. Southern Colorado front range - beautiful country, but a bit far from big city amenities (Denver is 1:45 away, Colorado Springs 45 minutes).
It's a 65-person company, traditionally family-run, but acquired a few years ago by a larger corporation. They'd now like to:
- Make the company a self-contained and self-supporting business again
- Create a strong STEM education focus
- Strengthen competency in the engineering and production of small solid propellant rocket motors
- Build ties in professional aerospace
- Redesign the Estes campus and launch an incremental renewaland expansion program
I get the idea that their ideal candidate would be someone willing to commit around five years to the process. Position profile and pitch attached below. I can connect you with my contact if you'd like to probe discreetly, or I expect you can just reach out to the recruiting firm if you'd prefer.
Thanks!

* Yes, I'm old enough to have had a newspaper delivery route when I was a kid.
