We had 278 launch attempts. 177 A motors, 5 B motors and 4 C motors recovered for a total of 186 motors recovered. Counting motors is how we kept track.

Seems like a pretty high failure rate. Or did you just not recover a bunch?

Correct. They did not put them all back into the box to be wounded, but several igniters also failed.

MHS AeroTech ARC teams and over 120 happy Milpitas kids can’t thank you and your helpers enough, Tony!  We are happy another ARC team could join us as well.   I also hear the principal of a different Milpitas Elementary is hoping this event could come to their ballfields too.

I saw some very cute and excited kids pushing the big button.  Hopefully some will show up on December 21 to see the big rockets at the ranch.

Those candy rocket pictures you showed a couple kids definitely caught their interest.

Many many thank yous!

Could not and did not do it alone. Patty and Robert brought all the gear along with Brian and I keeping the kids safe. Great fun doing exactly what LUNAR was formed to do

If you got your count from the recovered motors, how do you know how many attempts there were if some of the motors were missing?

The launch controller that Brian and I built counts each attempt. As long as we don't turn off the power we can see how many attempts at launching there were.

Interesting - is it triggered by the bottom push or an ignition feedback signal (burnt ignitor?)

Only counting the number of pads selected and the launch button pressed. One pad selected and one launch, one count. 6 pads selected and one launch button pressed, count of six added. It has no idea if the rocket motor ignited.

So an igniter failure would still count as a launch? If so, that might explain an over-count.  But still an innovative idea.

Yes, igniter failure counts as well as failure to connect the igniter.
