Fellow LUNARtics,

I’m looking for an inexpensive (read cheap) balsa laser cutting service. Tony Vanderbeek did some cutting for me years ago, but he’s since moved out of the country. Is there anyone else in this group who has access to a laser cutter who can cut what I need? Alternatively, can anyone recommend a laser cutting service that won’t break the bank?

Thanks.

Greg

Hi Greg,

The San Mateo County Library system has a few branches with Glowforge laser cutters.  This seems like the best (free!) option and you can always sign up if you're not part of that library. I have not tried yet so please post if you learn how navigate the process.

Another option is high school shops if you have a kid in high school with access to laser cutters (art, shop, robotics), or if you mentor an ARC team with access to one. This may apply to local colleges & community colleges too.

For more costly options:
Maker Nexus in Sunnyvale.
Vander Bend (not Burn), still in operation in San Jose with its industrial laser cutters.

Good luck!  - Eric

Hi Greg,

You got a lot of good responses.

I have a 24x24 inch Shapeoko 5 Pro and I recently added a 45 watt diode laser.

I would be willing to look at your needs and maybe use it as a learning tool.

You can connect with me off the thread at al...@virtualabs.com

I am in Napa.
