You missed out on all the fun yesterday, especially the attack of the
wire chewing cows. We needed you there to keep the cows away and to
splice the wires back together.
I have never seen a cow try to eat an electric wire. Snif it, yes; give
it a lick, sure thing; take a dump on it, whenever they get the chance.
Chomp down on it and start chewing, no way. I might have believed one
chomp was an accident, but three times, that was no accident. I caught
one cow with the high power pad's cat 5 cable in its mouth. The cable
went in one side and out the other. Kind of looked like a Foo-man-chu
mustache (should have been Fu-cow-chew). Of course, then he started to
run with the wire still in his mouth. The launch controller ended up on
the ground.
It wasn't just one cow either. The third time they got the wire to the
away pad and chewed it off in three different places.
Also, cows don't have biting teeth, they have grinding teeth so they did
not just bite off the wire, they ground a foot of it into a pulp
wherever they got ahold of it. I put some pictures of the remains on the
gallery.

Looks like we are going to need a new RJ45 connector on the end of the
away pad roll and I am splicing the plug back on to the pad 13-18 away box.

It's worth noting that these were not the normal, polite, Orvis cows that we're used to. I'm sure none of the local cows would have eaten our wires. This was a bunch of ill-mannered, out-of-town cows from Reno that are only visiting in Farmington. Who knows how they raise cows in Nevada. I also watched one Foo-man-chew the high power cable as I wrestled with him for it. As Bill may have noticed, they also ate the LUNAR sign down at the intersection near the creek. You'd think they'd be happy just eating the grass.
