Yes, I keep promising myself that I'll install a proper Luminotes
server, but it is quite a tricky business - all those components to
install, probably because of the modeless editing (which is, as far as
I know, unique - although I notice the latest version of Plone now
supports inline editing). The desktop version is nice, but I'd love to
have a simple note-taking application that can be shared between
colleagues - I've not yet found one that's as intuitive or convenient
to use as Luminotes.

The problem I have found is that some of the requirements that are
specified in the help files can not be found readily... at least not
on Ubuntu which is what I am using. Is this your experience too?

I'm hoping someone will make it through the process from beginning to
end and share the tips and tricks and links for the rest of us.

Hi everyone.

Sorry, took me a while to respond... I was able to get the server version running, with Ubuntu 8.04. Please note that the installation instructions regarding postgress apply to versions 8.1 and 8.2; they do not for 8.3 and (logically, I assume) beyond. I had difficulty making Luminotes play along with Apache too. Since I had to get things going as quickly as possible, I shutdown apache on the server and had Luminotes use port 80 (the default was something in the 8000s). Finally, I had to start Luminotes in development mode which is apparently slower than the production mode.

As an aside, I think luminotes.com may have been using that other web server (I can't think of its name) instead of apache. I wonder this is why the apache instructions were (what I thought to be) sparse.

I will be able to look into above listed glitches over the summer. Let's keep each other posted if we make progress any on of these fronts.

regards,

-ali

Hi All

I'm also using desktop at the moment but I did manage to get the
server version running a while back with a fair amount of help from
Dan. I may be able to help if anyone has any specific queries and my
memory stay true

Thanks Kie and Ali.

I'll come back and post some questions when I give this another go. A
little too busy right now.
