Hi Guys,

Is there any documentation out there still for setting up a luminotes
server? I want a personal note wiki thats available from anything. I
can host it up on my own server but I can't find any documentation for
setting it up.

Thanks all!

The INSTALL file included with the Luminotes source includes
instructions for setting up a Luminotes server on Linux, and examples
are included for using both Apache and nginx. Luminotes Server very
likely won't run on IIS (or Windows), but you're welcome to try!

I went with screwturn for now. In truth what I wanted is a hosted note
taking app for my ipad. Since nearly all the note taking apps on the
ipad go beyond sucking I thought I could toss up a simple wiki on my
web server. Something simple. Unfortunately tiddlywiki requires
doubleclicks to edit which the IPAd won't do and it runs on some level
of Java which we also know the ipad won't support. However I wanted
something of that scale. Small, lightweight, simple, and easy to
navigate. Luminotes looked like it would accomplish that, assuming it
would run correctly on the ipad.

At any rate I could not find anything small enough short of installing
mediawiki untill I stumbled across screwturn. It's larger then I had
wanted but it should do the job for now until someone actually makes a
descent note taking app for the ipad. Thanks for the time anyways
guys.

If TiddlyWiki requires a double-click anywhere, I can't think of where
that would be. TW needs java to save to local files on browsers other
than FF or IE. You can save to a server, if available, which only
requires a couple of php files I believe. I would think that would be
much easier to set up than a full-blown wiki application.

Back more on topic, does anyone have screen shots of luminotes at
work?

Thanks!
Mark

Hi Mark,

Tiddly wiki requires you to "Double Click" on a tiddler in order to
edit it. So in theory it COULD work on the ipad, if only the ipad had
doubleclick. Instead when you doubleclick the IPAD wants to zoom in.

Hello Mark.

I have Luminotes running on one of my servers for an educational
experiment. I would love to send you some screenshots but the Informed
Consent Forms I had our students sign prohibits me from doing it (the
notebooks they create will be graded). But this might help:

http://images.google.com/images?um=1&hl=en&client=firefox-a&hs=wy9&rls=com.ubuntu%3Aen-US%3Aunofficial&tbs=isch%3A1&sa=1&q=luminotes&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai=&start=0

Luminotes screenshots, at least for the time being, can be found here:

I never use the double-click on TW, so I forgot it was there. Each
tiddler has a link that lets you edit it with a single click. No
double-click required.

Thanks Dan and Ali for the screen shot references.

I've downloaded the source code. When I get a chance, I'd like to see
how hard it would be to run directly from Python on windows.

Thanks!
Mark
