Pleasetake a moment to consider if this thread is worth bumping.Recommended PostsRicky40Posted June 4, 2012Ricky40Resident 354Share Posted June 4, 2012 I have lately been seeing a lot of griefing going on in sandboxs. I was given some advice to get a hud with attacks and such, to defend against thee people. The problem is this. I have experimented with a couple huds and they do not work. I get messgaes like, "Can not rez" or "Land not push enabled" etc. Yet these grievers can some right in and use their huds with no restrictions! How is it that the griefers seem to be able to do what they want but if we try to use a hud oursleves in self defense, the sim settings prevent it?? IS there a better hud I should get, what is it they use?
The advice you were given wasn't, to my mind, very good advice. While it might be emotionally satisfying to counter-attack, all you're doing is adding to the griefers' entertainment -- you want to play with them -- and then, for added lulz, they can AR you and try to get you suspended for a bit.
And, if the worst comes to the worst, then simply pick up your build and tp somewhere else. Premium sandboxes are usually pretty quiet and there are lots of free, privately-owned, sandboxes available, which are better policed than are the Linden-owned public ones.
The best defense out there costs nothing, infact every avi already has it. Just rez a box, and have a seat, and maybe fiddle with your viewer settings a little bit. Griefers only have the power YOU give them, and by fighing back you are sinking to their level and giving them the ability to send out an AR on you.
you dont want to go down the other way. i dont recommend armoring up either. as if you not have much experience of greifing then sometimes defence can easy turn into offence when you got the weps/capabilities. give a person a gun and all that
most greifing is done by people who not care if the account they doing it on gets banned. is part of their game. like draw you into some drama and you get banned as well. is not good for you if you are invested in your account and they are not
it works the same way as sitting on a box. just uses script/menu so you can use/move easy. also the animation/sit offset can put your avatar at some distance away from the box. so when someone else puts a follower on you then it goes to the box and not to where you avatar is standing/sitting
I suggest you buy MystiTool which costs $L423. You can find it on Marketplace or inworld. Don't get the very restricted free version. It has some relatively basic defensive and offensive tools as well as a host of other very useful gadgets. It has a no-push Movelock tool which you can leave on with no inconvenience to you or alternatively you can rez a non-phys vehicle (a sit shield) if you see griefers approaching. Those should handle most griefer attacks in sandboxes. There is a ton of stuff in the box but all you really need to wear is the MystiTool Hud. Full manual is included and you get regular free updates.
Clearing cache won't do a thing (except slow down your texture rendering for a while). After all, anything that is in your inventory can't affect you. A script can't do anything unless it is in an object that is rezzed in world. So, if you worry about an attached tracker, detach all your attachments, including HUDs. If you have reason to suspect that one of them contains a tracking script, don't wear it again. If you have been using a TPV that offers RLV, disengage it to detach any unwanted objects that might be controlling or tracking your movements.
I don't advocate offensive tactics as that makes one no better than the griefers and feeds into what the griefers want - a reaction. The simplest way to not be pushed is by simply rezzing a cube (or rezzing a chair in your inventory) and sitting. You can't be moved or pushed that way. If someone cages you, just click on the cube/chair, edit, and move it (with you sitting on it) out of the cage.
One of my very favorite items in SL is my Mysti-Tool. I dont see it mentioned much in the forums these days because many of its functions are now included in the viewers, but there are still some I use to a greater or lesser degree. For defense, I use the non-physical vehicle in my Mysti. It rezzes a "glowing sphere" that you "sit" on to enter. You are then surrounded by an invisible sphere. Nothing can attack you, push you, etc. Years ago I was out shopping, in a store by myself (in fact I was the only person on the sim) until I was approached by a noobie who walked up with his brand new freenis hanging out and asked if I "Wanna f&&k." I activated the non-physical vehicle, stepped into it, then clicked on my "Point and laugh" gesture while Noob kept bumping off the invisible sphere. Priceless.
That reminds me - my former partner and I were someplace years ago where a griefer appeared who was using some flashy hud something to create fire and flashing orbs, etc. We both sat down and took popcorn out of our inventories and in general chat asked if the other would like some popcorn, and held a discussion about the popcorn while flashy griefer guy did his thing, then finally got bored apparently and tp'd out. It's possible to have fun with griefers in simple ways.
How has this not been resolved yet? Getting screwed over because I need to wait for someone to shoot me in the head is a truly dumb design. I lose points because someone else decided to shoot at me three times (missed all of his shots) before I engage killing him after I made it clear I wasn't hostile & intended to share.
My suggestion to everyone, is take the L. Some players are so toxic that they purposely miss shots around you too make you shoot them and drop your karma. If you get shot at, run - Only if they hit you can you retaliate.
Probably, but that still doesn't mean I shouldn't be able to put holes in them. You aim at me (especially ADS), I should be able to kill you straight out. Pointing a gun at someone is hostile intention and should give free reign to anyone that they point a gun at to smoke them. All that they are doing is being a douchebag at that point. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
Muzzle flagging absolutely needs to be a thing. If you muzzle flag me for a second I get to shoot you w/o losing rep and you have no scav cooldown or rep loss. I think its fair without being cheesy or excessively punishing for somebody who flags.
Why not iust have negative scav karma players(those whove been constantly abusing not simple mistakes)just become aggro to ai scavs all across the map. They wouldnt tag and curse but they would shoot that scav on sight since hes now opposed the entire scav nation and any scav that kills him gets reward even if he didnt kill any scavs in that particular lobby and this would occur until his net karma is made positive.
This abuse of the good scavs of tarkov has to change. For too long, the good scavs of Tarkov have now become second class citizens despite their loyalty to the greater cause. We must fight to regain their honor and rightful place by fighting for the rights of loyal scav raiders to peacfully extract and with hope that those who would destroy that which is most beautiful, trust, would get shot in the face by scav ai.
No it's a terrible idea. Literally the best part of this game is playing as a Scav and actually being part of a community that isn't just "Kill everything" which is stupid. It should be Bear vs USEC with the Scav's caught in between.
Hell Scavs are clearly the good guys and the PMCs are the scum bags that deserve to die. Scavs are just trying to feed their family, survive this war zone, and get back to living without worrying about getting shot all the time. The PMCs are the ones actively invading the Scav land to try and make money, committing war crimes all along the way.
no the scavs aren't the good guys. There are no clean good guys in tarkov. I've never heard a voiceline in this game where a scav refers to his wife and children, but I've heard plenty where they talk about pilfering loot to sell to traders so they can hit the strip club.
