Debian Developer (maintains ruby gems), Swathanthra Malayalam
Computing contributor (we are probably the largest foss developer
community in India, we take care of Malayalam and other Indic language
support in Free Software including fonts, rendering engines,
translation, spell check, text to speech etc), mentor for Google
Summer of Code in 2007, work closely with student community across
various campuses encouraging and mentoring them to contribute to Free
Software, Pirate Cyclist (traveled across Kerala one month on a
bicycle promoting digital commons).
I go to schools setting up computer labs and teaching teachers and
kids computer basics. We maintain a community diaspora service at
poddery.com (we ran a crowd funding campaign on
indiegogo.com) and
fight for privacy and internet freedom.
Worked with HP as Free Software consultant in Bangalore and Cupertino.
I was in Pune with Red Hat as Senior Systems Administrator for their
global engineering team.
I can take up any topics from computer basics at schools, introducing
Free Software to new people (including non technical crowd),
importance and getting involved in localization, introduction to
debian and contributing, maintaining debian packages, introduction to
processes and tools of free software contribution, mentoring specific
free software projects, and I have a new firefox os phone we could
hack on it. We can build maps using Open Street Map.
In short, I want more contributors to digital commons (wikipedia, free
software, creative commons, chamba project, open street map, open
educational resources etc) and seeking to find more people who connect
with the idea and want to work together.
