to LUG, Ramprasad S. Joshi ., Bhaavan Merchant, Nihanth Subramanya, Jay Rambhia, Priyans Murarka, Anant Kamath, Nishith Rastogi, Hitesh Mantrala, Deepanshu Mehndiratta
Greetings,

It's perhaps a bit early but I have about a month left on campus at the moment.  I have been maintaining the ftp and repo server since the end of my first year after Hitesh mantralaya handed me over this responsibility  under the watchful guidance of DM Kulkarni sir and Ramprasad Joshi sir.  It has been a mixed bag and pleasure to do so, I hope i have met those requirements to the best of my abilities given the various constraints we have to operate under.

There are 2 things I would like to clear up before I leave, these things will take some thought and time hence the haste to post this in advance.

1) Establishment of the BITS Devnet - A server for deicated developers on campus I have emailed the list and the authorities regarding the same on numerous occasions and we are making some good progress on that front. Hopefully we'll have this running in the next few weeks.

2) Transfer Responsibility  for the server infrastructure -  (The server is now fairly established and needs minimal intervention at the best.)
The devnet server is another story we need to figure out too. (Deepanshu is here for some more time and he seems quite involved )
  • Bhaavan Merchant will be back next sem after his PS2 term for the second semester of 2012-13 he will handle the servers while he is around.

The more permanent solution -
  • We need a student who would be on campus for a longer period . I am personally in the favor of either a first or second year student taking over as he would stick around longer. (Of course some third year student feels very strongly otherwise)
  • From past experience the handover is not as smooth as intended as the familiarity with the servers and deployment itself and rapport with the authorities esp the server room admins  is a critical and the more the changes the more challenges rise.
  • Now i explain the timing I will use this one month to familiarize the student with the servers , what the responsibility  involves, software and hardware configuration , limitations and other intricate details . Also he will gain familiarity with the other things and people involved . Of course he will have Bhaavan   will guide him through the next semester too.
So far a fresher Nihant Subramania a very talented , enthusiastic and dedicated developer I have come to know, has expressed interest .
Other people I could think off are our very own Anant Kamat (2011 batch).
Ideally Priyans Murakara or Jay Rambhia would be great fits but again they are third years and may disappear for ps in the very next semesters  .

Lets keep this as collective as we can. Any other people interested please respond to this thread . Let's keep the community perspective and democratic nature of this open . i expect this to run down the batches.

Also we need our juniors to step up the LUG Initiatives , Priyans , Jay and Anant are doing a good job so far . Remember it's a open community folks , anyone can take an initiative and get involved with the enthusiasm .

people drop in your Ideas, candy and brickbats and thoughts .

Cheers !
