(nishith rastogi: "oh yeah, btw, we can't convert tar to deb too by
alien." !!!!)
Infact, sometimes when converting from rpm or yum to debian, the
header files don't really get converted well. At such times, I get
hold of the file's tar counterpart and give 'sudo alien -d
filename.tar'
Talking about .exe, sorry brother, you can't ofcourse convert a
windows executable file (.exe) to a debian one. (the same reason why
we don't have strong DC for linux, or else , everyone would be using
that only !!). The entire file has to be rewritten to be compatible
with the unix system. But you do get debian counterparts of most of
the windows softwares.

well of course there is, alien isn't a compiler, tar packages are
source packages generally, probably what you are confusing with is
tgz (used by slackware). alien is a binary package conversion tool.
i can very well send you a bunch of images in tar format, you can't
convert them to .deb.
