Guys,
I'm keen to organise a Goa Wikipedia edit-a-thon.
[In the online communities of projects such as Wikipedia, OpenStreetMap, and LocalWiki an edit-a-thon (sometimes written editathon) is an organized event where editors edit and improve a specific topic or type of content, typically including basic editing training for new editors. They often involve meetups, but can be distributed as well. The word is a portmanteau of "edit" and "marathon".]
It would be a Goa Wiki editathon, covering Goa-related content in any language (English, Konkani, Marathi. Even Hindi, Urdu, Kannada or any other languages which those willing to edit are familiar with. There are no restrictions here, it would basically focus on Goa-related content....)
Question: would any one reading this be willing to volunteer and help? It could be on a Saturday or Sunday, say at Panjim. (To be finalised.)
* If you already edit the Wikipedia, that would be great!
* If you want to edit the Wikipedia, that would be fine too.
* If you don't fall in either category, you could give tech help to those who do.
What is needed. Volunteers to:
* Help writers and non-techies in their account-creation process.
* Stand by during the edit-a-thon to hand-hold when the writers get stuck.
* Help in the planning to ensure a smooth event.
* Help to pass the word around, so all interested can take part.
* Continue online mentoring to writers who might not be tech-savvy.
If you're game to volunteer, please contact offline. We could also discuss more details at our upcoming TechOverTea meet at Cafe Prakash. Any other suggestions for tech talks there pls?
