It seems that those who responded so far with an interest in
this group are either sysadmins or developers.
What are the interests of those intending to participate?
Here are my interests, in a general sense off the top of my head:
- Embedded & server systems, small HW hacking projects, linux
devices (like my nokia n800).
- Multi/many core processors, algorithm paralellization, clustering
- Kernel hacking, source walkthroughs (like SVLUG, OCLUG)
- Linux network internals
- Using/enhancing FOSS - apache, drupal, MySQL, etc.
- Security - gpg, ssh, ipsec,...
- Theoretical CS and algorithm design - reviewing online
courseware (like MIT OCW, NPTEL, ADU, etc.). I'd like to get
back into training for algorithm competitions like topcoder
- Being an informed UNIX citizen, deft at the command line,
able to leverage solid scripting abilities to get real work
done in a way that's impossible with a GUI
If others are like minded, perhaps we can expand the original
charter of LUGAJS to include a broader computer science
aspect, with practical emphasis on linux.
If this is counter to the spirit of this LUG, and we're more interested
in the less technical aspects of being a linux user, that's fine too.
Maybe a poll to see who's interested in which subject matter.
Thanks,
-Marc
