How do I discover what inf file a CDC virtual serial port is using.
I suspect I might have to remove it
to get Windows to accept the one I want.

Try opening the COM port entry in Device Manager, then select the
Details tab. There should be an entry in the drop-down for "Inf Name"
which will tell you the original INF installer filename.
