| From: Amina Doherty <aminad...@gmail.com> Date: Thu, Apr 26, 2012 at 8:43 PM Subject: Africa Utopia Festival - London Summer 2012 To: Greetings Family & Friends, I
hope you are all well! So I am sharing with you all a really exciting
initiative I am working on this summer! I've been asked to curate a part
of the first ever Africa Utopia festival at the Southbank Centre in
London. Basically, I am organising the programming for a group of young
people from Africa to participate in and contribute to the festival. We
are looking for 30 African young people (aged 18 - 26) (both in the
Diaspora and on the Continent) who are working on social justice/social
change projects and initiatives and who would be interested in coming to
London to share their work. The point of the festival is really to
bring together social change work and creativity in a way that
highlights the positive work coming out of the Continent. The festival
itself will feature
performances by people like Baaba Mal and Angelique Kidjo and
participants will have free access to all of the performances that are
happening as part of the festival. It is also an awesome time to be in
London with all the excitement of the Olympics happening in July.
I'd love if you all would pass on/share this info
with dynamic young people you think would like to participate in the
program. There are limited bursaries for folks coming from the continent
so DO APPLY! Details are below or you can check out: http://ticketing.southbankcentre.co.uk/about-us/discover-and-do/africa-utopia-youth-delegation
The deadline says monday but we have extended it for another week so get in applications by Monday 7th May 2012. If you have questions just link me! In Love & Light, Amina AFRICA UTOPIA - YOUTH DELEGATIONSouthbank Centre is looking for independent-minded young people, aged 18 – 26 years old, based in the UK or Africa who are interested in the arts, Africa and social change, to form a youth delegation during Africa Utopia in July 2012. This summer, Southbank Centre is presenting Festival of the World which explores ways in which art and culture have the potential to transform lives. Africa Utopia is part of this festival and it’s taking place throughout July 2012. A group of Elders including international artists, writers, thinkers and activists - spearheaded by renowned Senegalese singer and human rights champion Baaba Maal - will shed light on what Africa has to offer the world through a series of performances, talks, debates and films. We are looking for a group of young people to take part in an exciting programme of events, including inspirational sessions led by Africa Utopia Elders. You’ll get access to Africa Utopia performances and shows, plus advice and support on developing projects between Africa and the UK. You will also help to research and plan Africa Utopia 2013. You will need to be available in London from 16 – 29 July, and ideally you’ll also be able to attend the opening of Africa Utopia on 3 July. If you are interested in being considered for this project, please write a short statement telling us why and send it by Monday 30 April along with your CV to:africa...@southbankcentre.co.uk. |
