Rockefeller Foundation - Innovation for the Next 100 Years

Fortunatus,

Resilience is a word used across a variety of disciplines, from international development to business to our personal ability to overcome adversity.

But for the Rockefeller Foundation, resilience carries a special and specific meaning, based on the expertise we’ve developed over 100 years of helping to promote the well-being of humanity throughout the world, and particularly in the last 10 years of helping cities to prepare for and rebound from 21st century shocks.

With more than 75% of the world's population expected to live in cities by 2050, urban resilience has never been more important—and more urgent.

Today, we are rolling out the 100 Resilient Cities Centennial Challenge to help more cities around the world explore and take action around resilience. Winning cities will receive support to build and implement resilient strategies and leverage more funding from private sources to make those visions a reality.

Make sure your government leaders, neighbors, friends, and family know the importance of resilience—share this graphic on Facebook and Twitter right now.

Resilience might sound like a complicated concept, but in practice, it's about common sense: The more time we spend preparing cities to face an array of challenges today, the less time it will take for the city, and the people who call it home, to recover. And the more protected the poorest and most vulnerable people will be from its worst consequences.

Learn more about resilience—and how it’s built, nurtured, and maintained—through stories shared at http://100resilientcities.org and then join the global conversation.

And spread the word to everyone you know.

A city’s resilience depends on its people—start the conversation in your city today.

Sincerely,

Judith Rodin
President
The Rockefeller Foundation
