I can't seem to find a way to match USB serial ports & tty names. I
have two serial USB devices, which I can distinguish easily from
"usbconfig show_ifdrv"

ugen2.2: <URG-Series USB Driver Hokuyo Data Flex for USB> at usbus2,
cfg=0 md=HOST spd=FULL (12Mbps) pwr=ON
ugen2.2.0: umodem0: <Hokuyo Data Flex for USB URG-Series USB Driver,
class 2/0, rev 2.00/1.00, addr 2>
ugen2.3: <USB-Serial Controller Prolific Technology Inc.> at usbus2,
cfg=0 md=HOST spd=FULL (12Mbps) pwr=ON
ugen2.3.0: uplcom0: <Prolific Technology Inc. USB-Serial Controller,
class 0/0, rev 1.10/3.00, addr 3>

and they result in two ttys:
/dev/cuaU0
/dev/cuaU1

but I can't figure out how to map the USB devices to tty names. It
depends on what order they come up in. They're assigned sequentially
by a bitmap system in usb_serial.c

How can my code figure this out? I think what I want is some sort of
ioctl on the raw USB device or usbconfig option to tell me what tty it
appears as.

Be sure to keep in mind: the `real' TTY devices are ttyU0 and ttyU1. The
cua* devices are callout devices, which unlike the tty* devices don't
wait for a carrier detect signal during open().

My opinion is that the USB serial driver shouldn't use a bitmask to keep
track of which unit number are available, because we've got a nice KPI
for that:

http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/man.cgi?query=new_unrhdr

Unfortunately I cannot answer your question. Hopefully Hans can. ;-)

I think this is not possible at the moment. And there is no TTY API to pass
this information. Please provide a patch.

That's OK, but the real problem is that TTY is not a visible child of UPLCOM
for example. I would suggest adding a new IOCTL or maybe you have a better
idea, where we can pass the "device_get_nameunit()" string, and then TTY can
store it and pass it to userland.

Also TTY should have a printout in dmesg, which unit is create if this string
is specified.

Just patch your ucom driver to print that information. It doesn't belong
in the TTY layer. Can't you just extend usbconfig to also dump that
information?

Hi,

A printout in USB is OK for the user, but what about applications?

Probably I could extend with an USB IOCTL for the TTY device to do what I
want, in addition to a printout.

That seems like the right approach. Is there only ever one associated
"parent" driver? Are there cases where it should report both a serial
& network interface?

I have no hard metrics, but having gone from 7.2-release to 7.2-stable
sometime in the last couple weeks has really made my usb experience
quite unpleasant. I now have much trouble with loss of communication
to uslcom devices when closing and reopening them (*not* plugging and
unplugging them). Simply closing and reopening the port causes the
open to freeze about 25% of the time. I seem to have similar problems
with umass devices. I tend to leave evertthing plugged into the same
hub and when it freezes, I unplug the cable from the hub. That caused
a freeze & reboot (I assume there was a panic, although no output on
the screen).

Anyway, like I said, no real chance of debug with it being so
intermittent, just an FYI. Just thought I'd issue a report in case we
just merged head into stable and most people think it's great - I'm
not finding it great at the moment. If I do find a repeatable
sequence of events, I'll send some info.

Best!
Steve

That's a good question how to best standardise this. Probably the IOCTL is
useful for other busses too.

I'm currenty using RES-USB60F on my -current environment.

Hi,
I have an M-Audio MobilePre, it's a USB audio module which works with
snd_uadio, however to get it working I need to load the firwmare (via
DFU).

Unfortunately the only way I can get it to re-enumerate after sending
the firmware is to unplug it enough to disconnect the data lines (but
not power) and then reconnect.

I have tried usbconfig reset, power_off/power_on, set_config and set_alt
but to no avail..

Can you show dmesg, when you do:

Hi,

Is the USB CD-ROM detected by the USB stack, and what is the CD-ROM device?

Maybe you simply have to reconfigure sysinstall to use another /dev/cdX for
the installation.

Hi.

I tested below device on 8.0-RELEASE with patch.

>*1 Kyo-On DIGI(sorry, this page was writtin in Japanese)

This device is 5.1-channel USB sound device.

Without patch, ``No playback!''
ugen0.6: <vendor 0x0d8c> at usbus0
uaudio1: <vendor 0x0d8c product 0x0006, class 0/0, rev 1.10/0.10, addr 6> on usbus0
uaudio1: No playback!
uaudio1: Record: 48000 Hz, 2 ch, 16-bit S-LE PCM format
uaudio1: No midi sequencer
pcm1: <USB audio> on uaudio1

With patch:
uaudio1: <vendor 0x0d8c product 0x0006, class 0/0, rev 1.10/0.10, addr 6> on usb
us0
uaudio1: Play: 48000 Hz, 8 ch, 16-bit S-LE PCM format
uaudio1: Record: 48000 Hz, 2 ch, 16-bit S-LE PCM format
uaudio1: No midi sequencer
pcm1: <USB audio> on uaudio1

But I could not play with mpg123, only noise.
How can I use this device on 8.0-RELEASE.

Cheers.

Hello all,

Tried a GENERIC 9.0-CURRENT kernel csup-ped today just about 2 hours
ago. Same problem.
I seem to have been able to fdisk the disk, when bsdlabel-ing I get
kernel: (da0:umass-sim0:0:0:0) AutoSense Failed
The light on the USB cage stays red until I unplug it.

Can anyone assist?

Kind regards,

Spil.

PS from uname 9.0-CURRENT Tue Dec 15 15:09:49 CET 2009
