Gnome 2.28 - Stable FreeBSD 8.0 and FreeBSD 7.3 Release.
GDM did not show the fields username and password.
The Restart and Shut Down buttons not working in GDM.
Logged in as "normal user" in Gnome 2.28, the Restart and Shut Down buttons
do not appear. The buttons appear only as root.

The problem was solved by adding the "proc" in / etc / fstab:
proc / proc procfs rw 0 0

Why HAL FAQ-FreeBSD-Gnome does not report this problem?
The FAQ-HAL FreeBSD-Gnome only shows the problem with mounting devices.

The HAL FAQ is for HAL. It mentions that /proc is a requirement. The
main FAQ also lists it as a requirement for gnome-keyring. Given
that /proc only needs to be mounted once, following one of these two
FAQs would have set you straight.

The FAQ / HAL says (proc) is a prerequisite for mounting devices.
The FAQ / HAL says (proc) is a requirement to access external sharing.
Do not say that it is a requirement to reboot or shutdown the system (Gnome)
by buttons as normal user.
It also says nothing about not appear the user name and the GDM login
screen.
Also not say that the Restart and Shutdown buttons need the GDM (proc) to
work.
This information should also be in the FAQ.
This would avoid many questions in the forums.
