Since 8.0.Release you need to create a complementary WLAN device before being able to use It:
> Create a wlan device first:

> ifconfig wlan0 list scan
and add to the rc.conf file:
> wlans_ath0="wlan0"
If not update, this has a very high "time wasting" potential.
