Does anyone have any experience in setting up a chat room of some kind
that Lucere dev's can sign into.

Only last night I had three GChat sessions on the go at the same time.
Would be good to know who else is
online and have the option to ask questions etc.

Thoughts?

Thanks, Mark

I strongly suggest not going that route.
Having something like email is usually better, since not everyone can track the chat or participate

I only mention it as last night I got some good advice from a fellow dev whilst
porting some Java code to C#.

Otherwise I would have had to email and potentially wait longer to solve the
problems that I had.

I'm not saying it's mandatory, just optional. Plus for people like me who aren't
experienced in open source distributed development it's nice to get a helping
hand when needed.

Thanks for the input though.

One option is IRC. I have started a channel, #lucere on irc.freenode.net

If you do not have any experience with IRC, or don't want to install a client, there is a web-based client here

Just put #lucere in the channel list, choose a nickname, and hit "Connect"

This is only one avenue though. Are there any others that people would prefer?

It might help if we list what we currently use.

I use AIM and Live Messenger. They can both be used for group conversations and have logging features so we can record and post pertinent information.

Seems some are using gmail - I have a gmail account, but its rarely used. Are there native apps I can use to connect to gmail chat?

I can do IRC without a problem as well

Trillian definitely covers aim, msn, google chat, irc and a few others. Pretty good when you are like me an have to work with 5 different teams who like to use 5 different solutions.

I've tried that out in the past, few years ago, it was extremely clunky, similarly with pidgin. Ill take another pass at these and see where they are at today.

Sounds like you're on board any option we go with..

Thanks,
Prescott

I use Pidgin for the same purposes... But it's important to note that
even if your IM client can wrangle every chat service in the known
universe, you can't group chat across more than one service, so while
individual IM conversations could happen via whatever network made
sense for the pair of conversers, we'd need to pick a single IM
platform for group chat to be effective.

Thanks,
Troy
