How do you contribute to Lua's resources while still being in line with its philosophy?

The official repository is just a mirror, so how can we see the issues and perhaps make some contributions while maintaining the language philosophy? Please discuss some interpreter features. Are there any already being discussed? Is it necessary to know the state of the art?
