Subject: AACAI Student
Support Fund 2011, call for applications
Dear all,
In
2010 the Australian Association of Consulting Archaeologists (AACAI) Student
Support Fund had its inaugural year. On top of $2,000 core funding from AACAI
two members of the Association donated $500 and $2,500 (Ironbark Heritage and
Environment). This allowed 2 awards of $2,500 to be given. We received 8
applications, all of them deserving of support in our view. We were able to give
2 awards.
For 2011, last years donors have stayed on and we are
expecting to raise funds for at least 3 awards of $2,500 - well on the way just
a couple of hours after call for donations, so hopefully more.
In
building the Fund through the volunteer efforts of consultants, we were inspired
by the number of excellent proposals with clear links to consulting archaeology
received. These were based on either: A site or study that began in the
consulting world and was being given important further attention beyond the
client funded scope or regulatory requirements; or dealt with policy, best
practice or regulatory issues related to professional heritage
management.
In short, we need good applications to keep this
building and encourage you to get any students with relevant projects to apply.
While we have looked at ways in which we could support a range of students, the
need for a level playing field means that we are confining the Fund to full-time
honours students at this stage. Applications close on March 18th 2011, but
please let us know if your honours students are not confirmed in their projects
by then in case we need to adjust timing.
Please distribute the
attached information and application for students for 2011. Please also forward
to any specific staff supervising relevant students in case we have missed them
trawling your university's website. We appreciate any support you can provide
for making the fund successful.
Kind regards,
Oliver
Brown
