PASIG, the Preservation and Archiving Special Interest Group, will be holding its 11th international meeting 17-19 October, 2012, in Dublin, Ireland. This independent, community-led meeting is open to and welcoming of practitioners, researchers, industry experts and vendors in the digital preservation and archiving field. This meeting follows a very successful meeting in Austin, Texas in January of this year, where

  • 89% of survey respondents rated the content of the sessions a "4" or a "5"
  • 93% of survey respondents rated the speakers & facilitator as a "4" or a "5"
  • 96% of attendees said the event met expectations and that they'd attend again

Speakers and Agenda
PASIG Dublin will feature the best elements of past meetings, with a heavy emphasis on practitioners' concerns of preservation strategies, best practices, and emerging research in storage, architectures, and operation of preservation and archiving systems, at scale. The agenda is still in development, and will feature in-depth sessions on...

  • Digital Preservation Bootcamp -- an optional, introductory session on digital preservation issues, concepts and tools
  • Longterm Digital Preservation Storage Futures
  • Preservation Research, Breakthroughs and Futures
  • Practitioners Knowledge Exchange
  • Lightning Talks "from the Field"
  • Domain Deep Dive: Media Preservation
  • Costing Long Term Preservation: Current Research, Practices and Experts Panel
  • Cloud-Based Preservation Services
    • Point / Counter-Point
    • Closing the Gap between Promise and Reality
  • Emulation in Practice
  • Preserving at Scale: Architecture, Operations and Managing Growth

We are also expecting to incorporate a hands on workshop or hack-a-thon connected to the Open Planets Foundation during the event. If you have a topic that you'd like to bring to the group, or a speaker to propose, please contact me.

A free, optional Oracle technologies day focused on Tape, Tiered Storage Architectures, and Content Management will precede the conference on Tuesday, 16 October at the Gresham Hotel. Contact art.pas...@oracle.com for more information.

Registration
Registation information information will be posted in the next few weeks. In the meantime, save the date!
