Subject: HVAC-R Apprenticeship Open Enrollment

Good Afternoon Partners,

I am writing to share some exciting news regarding a significant expansion of apprenticeship training options on the Lower Eastern Shore.

Following a successful stakeholder meeting last month with HVAC employers and our regional partners, the Heating and Air Conditioning Contractors of Maryland (HACC) will begin offering Registered Apprenticeship classes at Wor-Wic Community College this fall. This initiative is a critical step in addressing the regional struggle to recruit, train, and retain skilled HVAC-R talent.

Registered Apprenticeship offers several distinct advantages for local contractors:

  • The Apprenticeship Advantage: Turn-key programs are simple for contractors to join with minimal setup, providing industry-leading coursework that ensures technicians are ready to work with all necessary skills and certifications.
  • Financial Incentives: State grants, such as the Maryland Apprenticeship Incentive Program (MAIP), are available to help companies offset recruitment and training costs, potentially saving between $3,000 and $7,500 per technician.
  • Licensure: HVAC-R Registered Apprentices are eligible for an automatic Maryland State HVAC-R journeyman license upon successfully completing the four-year program.
Apprentice applications are open now to both jobseekers and contractors looking to enroll their current employees for the fall semester. When applying, individuals should select "Wor-Wic" as their preferred training location.

I would appreciate it if you could share this opportunity through your local newsletters, social media platforms, or other free communication channels to help us reach as many contractors and jobseekers as possible.

Thank you for your continued partnership and for helping us bring more robust workforce training opportunities to our local community.

Warm regards,
