SENIOR Research Technician

Missouri Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit

The School of Natural Resources, University of Missouri

 

Agency/Location: The position is grant-funded through the MU School of Natural Resources, Columbia, Missouri. The position is renewable annually, at least until December 2026, with the possibility of continuation.

 

Job Description: The selected candidate will collaborate with University of Missouri (MU) graduate students and biologists from the Missouri Department of Conservation. In 2024, MU researchers identified the first ever wild Lake Sturgeon larvae in Missouri River tributaries.  The candidate will be part of these efforts to determine factors affecting Lake Sturgeon spawning.  The candidate will be required to use an assortment of fisheries sampling techniques and equipment, including sonic telemetry, gill nets, trotlines, larval drift nets, benthic trawls, boats with outboard and jet motors, GPS equipment, and another laboratory analytical equipment.  The position will also conduct laboratory tasks including enumeration and identification of larval fishes, mapping suitable Lake Sturgeon habitat, and maintain the accuracy and availability of information in databases, provide field and technical support to researchers, students, managers, and perform general maintenance on boats and equipment. 

 

Salary: $14.51-19.92/hour                                      Shift: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM or as needed

Preferred Qualifications: BS degree in Fisheries & Wildlife/Natural Resources or similar field; experience working outdoors and independently, operating boats, various nets used in fisheries, Department of Interior Motorboat Operators Certification. The ability to work with limited supervision.
