About the Position

  • This is an administrative position that will coordinate the Fisheries Bureau's State Fishing Lake program. The incumbent's primary office will be at the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks headquarters in Jackson; however, frequent travel within the state is expected. The primary duties will include supervision of program managers, oversee facility improvement and construction projects, conduct routine inspections of facilities (lakes, dams, campgrounds, boat ramps, fishing piers, etc.), prepare annual budgets, compile revenue reports, and provide input on hiring and regulations

  • This is a regional fisheries biologist position with the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks. The incumbent will be responsible for fisheries management on public waters; primarily sportfish populations in oxbow lakes along the Mississippi and Yazoo Rivers. At this level, employees are considered experts in their field serving as project managers and supervisors. Duties include fish population sampling, angler creel surveys, aquatic habitat surveys, managing aquatic vegetation, analyzing and interpreting data, developing and implementing management plans, and making recommendations on fishing regulations. Other duties include providing technical guidance to private pond owners, assisting with youth fishing events, giving presentations, writing popular articles, and operating and maintaining equipment, such as boats and outboard motors.
