you are interested in building something new and working across multiple programs and agencies, this is the position for you.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is filling a new, permanent, position that will serve as the Interjurisdictional Invasive Species Rapid Response Team (IInSRRT) program coordinator. The IInSRRT program is a new interagency program that is a key component of the National Invasive Species Early Detection Rapid Response framework for invasive species. The position will be positioned within the National Wildlife Refuge System's Division of Natural Resources and Conservation Planning with close coordination with the Fisheries and Aquatic Conservation Program, other Department of Interior (DOI) bureaus and offices, along with other federal, state, and tribal agencies. The duty station location is negotiable upon selection. This is NOT a remote position.

The following is little context of what the position will do:

  • Rapid response to early detections of incipient populations of invasive species is one of the most effective ways to prevent invasive species establishment. Capacity and funding to undertake rapid response actions can be limiting factors to achieving effective rapid response. The IInSRRT program coordinator, in collaboration with others, will develop and implement this new program to build capacity, streamline processes, and leverage resources for supporting rapid responses to national priority incidents that are within DOI’s mission and authorities and requested by lead management authorities. This includes strengthening program preparedness and program operations in support of existing invasive species management structures used by DOI bureaus and other lead management authorities. The program is envisioned to be based on the principles of the national incident management system and incident command system.
