Subject: OUTREACH: Deputy District Ranger GS11/12 - Belt Creek Ranger District, Lewis & Clark NF, Montana
Importance: High

We are looking for an enthusiastic, energetic, and quick learner to join our Leadership Teams (Districts & joint Forests) for the following position:

Deputy District Ranger GS-340-11/12

Lewis & Clark National Forest, Belt Creek/White Sulphur Springs Ranger Districts

Neihart, Montana

The Lewis & Clark National Forest will soon be advertising a GS-0340-11/12 Deputy District Ranger Position.  The position is a permanent full-time appointment, and will be located at the Belt Creek Ranger District in Neihart, Montana, working as a Deputy District Ranger for the Belt Creek and White Sulphur Springs District Ranger.  The purpose of this Outreach Notice is to inform prospective applicants of this opportunity.

Our intent is that this is a developmental 2 year position, and our expectation is that the incumbent will move on to a full Ranger position in about this time period.

The Lewis & Clark National Forest and the Belt Creek/White Sulphur Springs Ranger Districts are seeking motivated, energetic candidates who demonstrate the ability to promote natural resource stewardship, engage in community collaboration, and mentor and develop strong leaders in our workforce.  We are especially seeking someone who can come up to speed very quickly on complex, CERCLA/Superfund mine clean up and rehabilitation issues and solutions.  We also need someone who can work well with other agencies where the Forest Service is not in the lead role yet provides very important information and logistical support to operations.   And we are seeking someone with skills that lend themselves well to providing leadership in developing and starting a transition plan for the Lewis & Clark National Forest and the Jefferson Division (a subset of 4 Ranger Districts on the Lewis & Clark National Forest) going from 4 Ranger Districts to 2 Ranger Districts with corresponding staff changes, changing relationships, and other potential changes.  This will require someone with good organizational, systems and strategic thinking, and relationship skills.
