Dear friends, the Baton Rouge Chinese Culture Club and the
LSU School of Music cordially invite you to a concert by the Houston Chinese
Traditional Music Group at 7:00 p.m., Saturday, June 18, 2011 at the LSU School
of Music Recital Hall.
The HCTMG is an ensemble of great variety. Members
range widely in age and represent a diverse cross section of the Houston
community--from recent immigrants and established business people to
stay-at-home parents and students. Their goal is "to provide a venue for
performers of traditional Chinese music to share their passion with the Houston
community". With a current membership of more than 30 amateur and
professional musicians, the HCTMG orchestra feature a full spectrum of
traditional Chinese musical instruments--erhu(Chinese fiddle), bamboo flute,
suona (oboe), pipa and ruan (lutes), zheng (bell), hammer dulcimer, hulusi
(cucubit flute), guzhen (zither), etc. In addition, the orchestra
incorporates western instruments such as cello, double bass, piano and accordion
and present a unique marriage of Asian and Western repertoire, arranges and played on Chinese traditional instruments for the enjoyment of audiences of all
background.
