Hi folks,

I noticed that my retirement account had a 12-14% loss in the last season.  Is such a loss normal? I am with ING. I did not do anything special but simply selected their 2025 portfolio.  Has anybody done anything different with a lower loss?

Hi Y'll,

Should this be our discussion topic for our next luncheon?

Because the US economy, in addition to Europe, have the risk of getting into another recession, the stock market has huge correction from SP500 around 1300 level to 1070 about 9 days ago.

During this time, most of the mutual funds in ING and others, dropped 20-30%, depending on what kinds of funds you have selected.

Does that mean our next quarter reports would more depressing?

The market actually has had a big rally since last week, the market has recovered about 10%from its low.

If it stays at this level, you will see some increase in account. If it goes down again, as I think so, you will see a big drop again.

Just my 2 cents.

Please be very careful, even with the horrible performance, grim outlook, most professionals will advise not to sale your assets at this point to avoid "buy high and sale low".

How to invest in retirement plans is very personal. The safety is always the top priority for me, and most people.

The are many choices in ING, we all need to talk with the financial advisers to choose the suitable investment tools.  For example, stocks normally jump up and down a lot, Fed bonds tend to be stable (with lower return of course), each person should be careful to choose.
